SLIIT Student Research Symposium
SLIIT student research symposium will be held for the first time on Wednesday, 16th November, 2016 from 8 am - 6 pm at the main auditorium. All the publications submitted under the CDAP 4th year module will be considered for this symposium. There will be two types of publications accepted for the symposium under the categories Oral presentations and poster presentations.
In order to obtain the marks allocated for the research paper in the CDAP module, you must present your papers at the SLIIT student symposium. All members of the teams have to be present to obtain the marks. Note that this does not apply to the papers that are already accepted for the NCTM conference. The papers that are already selected for the NCTM conference will not be presented at the symposium. Following is the list of papers selected for Oral and Poster presentations at the symposium.
**** Guidelines for Oral presentations *****
The papers selected for Oral presentations would be the full papers with the maximum length of 6 pages. Please make sure that your paper adheres to the following template. If the current version doesn't adhere to the template, it won't be archived and printed for the proceedings. If you have any modifications to make, email the reformatted paper as a docx file to the CDAP email firstname.lastname@example.org. You may use the CDAP module code as the file name. Make sure to email the updated papers by 11th November (Friday). The subject line of the email should be "Symposium Paper" If you don't have any reformatting to do to match the following template, we will use the paper that you have already submitted.
This template is similar to the NCTM template, except for the author information section and the * to indicate the corresponding author. Make sure to add an email that you will regularly check in the future. If you are not planning to use your sliit email for regular use in the future, you may add a personal email. Also, the author names should be in <<First Name>> <<Last Name>> format.
The time allocated for an Oral presentation would be 15 minutes, with additional 5 minutes given for Q & A. Please adhere to the time limit strictly, as we will be running on a tight schedule. You may rehearse the presentation well in order to avoid going overtime.
***** Guidelines for Poster presentations ******
The posters should be of the size 60’’ 24’’ (height * width). The students should prepare the poster based on their research papers. They should be digital printed on a flex board. Rings should be placed at each end to hang them on X holders (we will provide the holders). You will have to design and print the poster. The posters would be presented at the main auditorium. Please find the template for the posters below. The posters ready for display by 8.30 am on the symposium day at the main auditorium. If you have any queries regarding preparing/printing the posters, contact Mr. Darshika Koggahawela (email@example.com) or Dr. Dharshana Kasthurirathna (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Note that you may change the layout slightly to fit your project. Also, you may change the color combinations and fonts as you wish. However, be mindful about the font sizes. (The attached template has a height of 56'', which is the maximum height allowed with Powerpoint page set-up. So there will be an additional margin when you print on a 60'' * 24'' board.). You can save the Powerpoint slide as a .jpg image as well.
In addition to the poster, the poster presenters should send a 2 page extended abstract of the paper. The extended abstract should contain the author details and a summarized version of the paper. Following is the template for the paper (although the template given here is 4 pages long, make sure to limit your extended abstract to 2 pages). This extended abstract will be included in the symposium printed proceedings.
This template is similar to the NCTM template, except for the author information section and the * to indicate the corresponding author. Also, the title is prefixed with 'Extended Abstract - ' and the paper is condensed to 2 pages. Make sure to add an email that you will regularly check in the future. If you are not planning to use your sliit email for regular use in the future, you may add a personal email. Also, the author names should be in <<First Name>> <<Last Name>> format.
In addition to the extended abstract, please update the full paper according to the full paper template given below. It will be used when the paper is archived at the SLIIT Research web site.

Please note that you have to email the the designed poster (both in pptx and jpg formats), the extended abstract (docx file) and the full paper (docx file) in a single zip file to the CDAP email email@example.com by 11th November (Friday). The subject line of the email should be "Symposium Poster" Please use your CDAP project code for all the file names.
If you have any queries regarding the symposium, you may contact Dr. Dharshana Kasthurirathna (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Note: Please note that you can still submit your paper to any other local or international conference after presenting your paper at the symposium, since there is no copyright transfer. However, we may add the electronic versions of the papers to the SLIIT Research web site for archiving purposes and for the reference of future students and external parties.
Note: There are 24 papers included here that are still pending the NCTM review. So some of you may still get an acceptance from the NCTM conference later on. In which case, you will have to present it at the NCTM conference as well. However, we have to include those papers as some of the NCTM reviews are getting delayed.
